Taylor Swift was a rarity in pop: she is the only celebrity to have moved from the country to mainstream and then to be an international icon of pop culture. Swift left her heritage in country music as if she was a second skin and proved that she was the most refined pop sensibility of her generation. Swift was the only artist/singer who could follow the zeitgeist of popular music when she went on tour. It was apparent in her earliest songs especially in her neo tribute to Tim McGraw. On her 2nd album, Fearless (2008) Swift showcased a writer getting to know herself. The album was hugely successful not just in America, where six of its singles have been declared platinum, on top of Top Ten hit songs Love Story and Belong with Me. But it also smashed records across the globe. Swift took off to the peak of stardom when she released Speak Now. With her subsequent three albums, Red (2012) 1989 (2004) and Reputation (2017) Reputation (2017), Swift's popularity grew and she was able to enter a music scene in which it became clear she was a part of. Her name was always on top of the charts even when she dropped her signature style in her twin albums folklore & Evermore in 2020.
