Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of football scholarship for his parents and a commitment to his community. In the first place, he was born by Lucious and Jessie Selmon on an agricultural property near Eufala located in Oklahoma as the youngest of the nine children they had. The second football was that his father was the only of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. All three made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. In his time as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and won two national titles. He was awarded a third scholarship in 1975 and designated a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon was awarded a degree from education. Lee Roy was involved in volunteer work ten hour per week throughout his college years. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. Also, he began an entrepreneurial career. In 1988, as an account relations officer at First Florida Bank of Tampa and worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as one of the most prominent young men in the country. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as player, commanded his team throughout 1975. In 1993, Roy was a part of at the University of South Fla's athletic department as the Director of Athletics as an associate. The College Football Hall of Fame named him in 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame In 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave their Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor, who presented this award.
